swans

i thought it was about time that i put an update on here about the swans,

they are both doing well and very much in charge of the river again, the ducks, coots and moorhens still swear at them but generally from a distance, except when bread or corn is involved then its a beaky free for all,          the male still has a hissy fit when he see`s me but is trusting me more and more as time goes on,

BUT we had a serious problem earlier and as yet don`t know the outcome ,

another swan was found on the river, and its in a bad way, we managed to get hold of the `swan man` and he was here within 10 minutes,it looked to have a broken wing, but it seems that isn`t the case, the bird was very cold when taken away but is now in a warm pen with a heater, the average weight of a swan that size is about 10 kilos this one weighed in at 6 kilos, and feather wise is very bedraggled, the swan people are thinking that it may have lost its mate  as well, as its showing signs of being depressed so they will be doing their best but its basicly upto the swan,  will keep you updated when i know more,

A bittersweet entry, happy to hear your swans are doing so well but that is so sad about the other one.  Poor dear, I hope he finds a reason to go on if it indeed he is mourning the loss of his mate.  You are a wonderful soul the way you care for these swans.
